Your guide to the Umbraco Poland Festival: EAT

Dzień dobry!

I'm Anthony, and I'll be your Foodie guide around Krakow today.

If you are a foodie like me, then you'll get your fill in Krakow. The quality of food in Krakow really puts many other cities to shame.

Must Try's

  • Eat a Krakow bagel - Buy it from a lonely bagel seller on a street corner!
  • Eat Pierogi
  • Eat a classic Polish ice cream - It's creamier than you have ever experienced
  • Eat zapiekanka (grilled open baguette) in plac Nowy (Kazimierz)
  • Eat Kielbasa (Polish sausage) in plac Nowy (Kazimierz)
  • Eat barszcz czerwony (beetroot "red" soup)
  • Eat zurek (sour soup) *Not vegetarian*
  • Eat Polish cheese cake
  • Eat a Polish donut with rose jam - Very intensely sweet and very floral in aroma. Probably best to share it.

Food & Drink - Main Market

As you can see in the map below, I've been to a fair few places in Krakow. There's too many to list in one article and this doesn't even cover all of my favourites (just the places that I bothered pinning!) It's probably only 5% of the restaurants/bars/cafes which actually exist in the main market but I've picked out a few must visits in the list below :-)

Lunch / Dinner

Restaurants at the main market square

The restaurants at the main market square are very good. They are great for just sitting and soaking up the history. Prices are expensive by Polish standards, however it’s well worth it.

Milk bar - **RECOMMENDED**

Classic old dinner. Food is really cheap, and is an authentic experience for how the Polish dined out during communism. Note: this is definitely not a “fine dining” experience, but it’s authentic. I recommend the pancakes, pierogi, and the cold soup. Get there before 1pm as they tend to run out of various items.

Grodzka 43, 30-962 Kraków, Poland

La Grande Mamma - **RECOMMENDED**

One of the best Italian places in the main market. Bookings are essential!

Rynek Główny 26, 31-008 Kraków, Poland

Chimera - **RECOMMENDED** - MUST!

This place has 2 levels.

The ground level is a cafe/salad bar. It’s like an indoor oasis, and is great for a quick meal in a relaxing atmosphere. The basement is a restaurant and it's is truly a hidden gem.

3, Świętej Anny, 31-008 Kraków, Poland

Przypiecek - 24hr Pierogarnia

If you really need a pierogi fix, then this is the place for you!

Sławkowska 32, 31-015 Kraków, Poland

Cafes - Main Market

Café Bar Magia - **RECOMMENDED**

A really cute cafe tucked in the back of an alley. A tranquil escape from the busy main market.

plac Mariacki 3, 31-000 Kraków, Poland

Nowa Prowincja  - **RECOMMENDED** - MUST

A locals favourite. Full of rustic charm. Go there for the thickest hot chocolate you have ever experienced. They also have a secret tea room in the attic.

Bracka 3-5, 31-005 Kraków, Poland

Food & Drink - Kazimierz

As you can see again, I've been to a lot of places. It suffices to say that this list is definitely not as large as it deserves to be. Below the map, you'll see my picks for anyone seeing Kazimierz for the first time.

Coffee - Kazimierz

Kawa Lerka - **RECOMMENDED**
